I live in Coventry and I really enjoyed reading this book. It gives an insight into what to do when living in the city and how to get through and what not to do. The author says if you are serious about surviving in the UK then you must read his book. It's a good place to start. But there's more than that I'm afraid as this book is an excellent primer and if you follow the advice given there then you will survive in the city.

 

I have seen the book a couple of times now and I can fully appreciate the content. It's full of useful information and does not try to be a do-it-yourself book or promote one way of life over another. In fact, there is no hint of either. It is simply a book about what works in ordinary life and what doesn't work and how to survive in it.

The author starts his story in the run up to the Iraq war and the turmoil that followed but we soon realise that his focus is on the practical aspects rather than the events that transpired. He tells you to look after yourself, for starters. He tells you to stock up on food and to make sure that you are able to live in a climate that suits you and your family. He doesn't muck around with complicated solutions or political rhetoric.

 

Rather he takes a straight forward approach and that makes the book very easy to understand and read. The writing style is clear without being boring or repetitive. The illustrations help to build up the characters and situations more effectively. I particularly liked the way in which the author presented the conflicts that we as individuals would have to deal with. Most of us have experienced stress in our lives and the solutions have normally been in the form of a trip to the doctor or a quick fix. The author uses humour in the book and that kept me entertained.

 

So if you are a survivalist or a disaster recovery expert then this book will provide you with the advice that you need and want. It's certainly a lot of advice and much of it is practical. For example the importance of building up your knowledge base regarding survival conditions and emergency procedures. However, what struck me as interesting was how he included a number of things into the story that seemed to have been left out of the book. These things were valuable and had helped my own understanding of survival.

 

This is not just another "get rich quick" scheme. I did not think that Farah was trying to make this into a self-help book but she did include some excellent information that could prove invaluable to anyone who is looking to survive a disaster or calamity in their life. For example she included numerous recipes for emergency foods that would be easy to prepare and that would give families added food on top of whatever they already had on hand.

 

The reality is that most families simply don't have the resources that Farah did and she provides excellent tips to overcome this problem. For example when preparing food for a family of five she suggests that the families' size should be no larger than four. This would give them enough food and supplies to last for at least two weeks. If you are thinking about how to survive cold with this book then I would recommend that you read it and see what it can do.
